The Battle for Skandia - John Flanagan John Flanagan has written some of the best battles I've ever read. He keeps your attention but doesn't get all fancy on you with battle-talk and the such, you know, all those fancy terms people use when they write high fantasy. Anyway, he paced the battle to perfection and keeps you well entertainted.

The character development, as always, was masterfully done. Flanagan stayed true to the characters not only while they weren't in Aruelan, but also when they were. He was very consistent with their personalities. The characters were all very realistic and everything they did seems all so very possible, including the Rangers' shockingly accurate aiming.

I'm not sure if Flanagan could've done any better with this book.
